LOVE By Mia

Hey everyone! So if you know me you know I design and sew cloths, bags, jewelry...etc. It started with my making of a pleated, sweatshirt fleece, skirt. I wore it to school, and instantly all my friends wanted one! Then I started making other things, headbands, bags, pencil cases, fabric necklaces.... And I don't know if you've seen the new "thing everyone knows about" is writing love in signs. The L is the breast cancer ribbon, the O is a peace sign, the V is a heart, and the E is a side-ways smiley face. I've decided that that is going to be my label name. You know like, "Marc by Marc Jacobs." Mine will be LOVE By Mia, except spelled with the little symbols.  What do you think? To cheesy? Let me know! Below are some pictures of things I've made and the LOVE sign. I'll talk to you later!

Hair Streak

Hey everyone! So my friends and I were at Urban Outfitters and we all got these cute, little, colored hair streaks. We all said we would wear them on monday, but of course I was the only one who remembered.  I've been wearing it for three days, but it kind of limits my hair styling choices. (I learned the hard way that it was made of plastic and couldn't be curled. Haha :-) ) Another thing that's hard is that I have to watch that it doesn't clash with what I'm wearing! But a plus is that it gives neutral colored outfits some flair. But it would be kind of weird if I wear it like an accessory, like I wear some days, but not others. Half of the people I know love it, and the other half hate it. Should I retire the hair streak, or forget what the losers who hate it are saying? HELP ME!!!

Crimped Hair

Wide Toothed Comb
Curling Mousse
Smoothing Gel
Hey everyone! Again, sorry I haven't been posting regularly, I'll try to post more often. Anyway, I decided I'm going to tell everyone my biggest hair secret. Haha, actually it's not all that secretive but I'm going to give you the details of how I crimp my hair. If you've ever tried to crimp your hair with a crimping iron before, you know it's hard to get really defined "crimps," I guess we'll call them. Especially without using a whole bottle of hair spray to keep them in all day. So I came up the the idea of no-heat crimping. You take a shower within about an hour before you go to sleep. Then I add a smoothing gel, I guess you could call it. It's by Pantene, it's called Pantene Pro-V Style Smooth Serum. Then I finger scrunch in some curling mouse. It's also by Pantene, it's called Pantene Pro-V Style Curls Mousse. Brush your hair with a wide toothed comb into two sections of hair (I have a picture of mine at the bottom.) And divide each half into three smaller sections. If you have side bangs, they have their own section. And then braid each section. I have thin hair, so I probably would use less braids then someone with really thick hair. So experiment, and remember the smaller the braids the smaller the crimps. Go to sleep in the braids, and when you wake up in the morning take them out. You will have effortless crimped hair, and get so many complements you won't remember all of them. Haha I hope you try my little secret! I'll talk to you later!

FASHION NEWS REPORT!

Hey everyone! So I just read that Lanvin is doing a line for H&M!!!! I'm not sure when it's coming out, but I do know that, from what I saw, that the line is all black. And very tailored, sharp pieces. A little bit of ruffles, a little bit of lace, blazers. They've got it all. Again I'm not sure when it's coming out, but when it does, I'm heading to H&M! Just a quick post to keep you informed! Haha. I'll talk to you later!

Trend Spotting

Hey guys, I'm super sorry I haven't posted in the past couple of days, I'll try and make up for it. Trend Spotting. One of my favorite ways to trend spot is to snuggle up in bed with the new Teen Vogue and Seventeen. Although, it's important to remember that not all trends, no matter how hot, look good on everyone. For example, denims really in, and not just in jeans. Dresses, overalls, blouses...etc. But I know I'm petite, and I can't pull off overalls. (Not that they're really my style but... if they are and you're petite like me.) They make me look short and stubby. Not good. So try and find something similar to that trend that flatters you. For example I might want to try a little overall dress. Alexa Chung, designer for Madewell, has a whole line of denim frocks that are supposedly "...taking over the jean scene." (Teen Vogue November 2010.) Including an overall dress or two. Haha. Another thing to remember is to stay true to yourself, and style. Don't think to stay fashionable that you must wear all the current trends. If you don't like it, don't wear it. I have for sure shunned a trend here and there. For example, parts of the whole "Scandinavian Style" that's going around I'm not in love with. Like the heavy-duty, all weather boots, are not going to be in my closet. So remember, stay true to your style, and remember what looks good on your body type, and you'll be all set. I'll talk to you guys later!

Friends and Fashion

Hey everyone! So now I'm chillin with some friends and they inspired me to blog about them. Have you ever looked at your friends and realized not one of you has the same style? Well that's the way it is with my friends. My friend Sydney, the one I wished happy birthday to a couple days ago, style is hippy. Himynameislisi, Lisi describes her style as chillster. Which is sort of anthropologyish. Liza is skater girl. Claire is cute tank-top and jeans. Julia is laid back frenchie style. Megan is comfy glam. And me? I'm preppy. See? Not one of us is alike, fashionwise. That's why fashion is made up of style. So there's the end of your lecture. I'll talk to you later!

Project Runway

Hey everyone! Right now I'm watching Project Runway, my favorite show in the entire world! For those of you who have never heard it, it's about fashion design and sewing. So I'm watching the challenge before fashion week, and I realized the designers that are left aren't all that good! I have to say looking back on the past seasons I would have to say the same thing. The one season that I think a true fashion genius won would be Christian Siriano, season 5. Himynameislisi would agree. Haha. There have been some other good designers but the past two or three seasons I haven't been impressed. It worries me that Haute Couture will die out. There hasn't been a Coco Chanel since, well Coco Chanel. Or Versace, Yves St Laurant, Gucci, Prada. Let's not forget Alexander McQueen, may he rest in peace, that has just left us. We need a new revolution of fashion prodigies. Well the commercials over so I got to go. Haha Talk to you later!

Headbands

Hey everyone! So one of my favorite trends going around right now is headbands. You know, the ones with the big flowers on them or whatever. I. Love. Them. So. Much. I bought a hot pink, big flower, one from J. Crew and I love it. It's a great way to add a pop of color! I've also collected a few others from Forever 21 and whatever. So I was wearing my J. Crew headband to school, and my friend Liza says "You could totally make that." I sew and fashion design. So we had a little contest who ever got around to making a flower headband first would win. Well, I won! So now I make these flower headbands! There just made from felt, it's super easy. So after that I started playing around with other materials and  I made a few other headbands. I thought I'd show them to you, and maybe inspire you to have a little race thing your friends! By the way, Liza, you have failed to complete the race! (She still hasn't made her headband.) So I added some pictures of the headbands I've obtained and some I've made. Hopefully it'll inspire you to go make or buy one of the hottest trend right now. I'll talk to you later!

Leopard Print

Hey everyone! So today I decided to talk about the new trend leopard print, because I just got a cute pair of leopard flats! So I was in the mood. Anyway, leopard print is a great way to add pattern and texture to an outfit. I've mentioned before The Four Rules of Fashion: #1 Color #2 Pattern #3 Texture #4 Shine. I try to incorporate these four things into all of my outfits everyday. And leopard print is definitely pattern, and sometimes if it's a real or faux pelt, it will have the texture of the hair. I said earlier that I got a pair of leopard flats, but they sell leopard everything. From sweaters to bags to leggings to dresses. You name it. Here's a few items I've seen in leopard and loved, including my new flats that I'm so excited about. One of the reasons I love them so much is that they're comfortable! I have found very few flats in my day that are comfortable, but these are one of them! They're all from Juicy Couture, they really embraced this trend! I'll talk to you later!

Rompers

Rompers. My other new obsession. I have acquired only one so far, but I'm determined to buy some more. I think they make great school outfits because they're like dresses, you don't have to find a match. But I think they're even better then dresses (for school) because it's still the easiness factor without the fanciness. I wear dresses to school probably more then the next girl, but sometimes you want more of a playful look, and I think rompers are a great way to do that. I'm truly sad though because it's starting to get cold, and rompers are more of a summer thing. You can't really wear them in the winter. There are pant rompers but they do not look good on shorties haha. I was going to put a picture of my romper up but I broke my camera so I had to get a new cheapy one and it takes horrible pictures sooooo. I'll just tell you about it. It's hot pink, terry cloth, short-sleeved. It has a zipper going down the front, and it had little cargo pockets, and gold accents. That's the best I can describe it, so I'll see you later!

Cocktail Rings

Cocktail Rings. My new obsession. I don't even really remember how I got into them. I think it might have been because Forever 21 always has a ton of them. I'm not really sure. Anyway, I think they're a great accessory to finish off a look. They help pull your outfit together by adding the shine factor. There are 4 things I look for when putting together an ensemble. #1 Color. #2 Texture. #3 Pattern. #4 Shine. And cocktail rings are a great shine piece. I also think that they're a good way to show your personal style. For example you might not like the same ring as your friend, and that's because you have different styles. I haven't yet built my ring collection very much, but I photographed a few that I have for you, to give you an idea of what i'm talking about. Talk to you later!

Evolution of Fashion

I was walking down the streets of Chicago and what do I see? People strolling around in baggy sweatpants and t-shirts. What does fashion even mean anymore if no one seems to care what they look like? The question is what is fashion? Style. What is style? The people who wear it. So if everyone dresses like slobs, what will the world come to? Sloppyness. I know not everyone dresses like this, but the fact that very few people, in the fashion capitol of the midwest, dress fashionably is depressing. So I make a toast, to the fashionable, for keeping the fashion tradition alive! OPAH!
